Looking Inward Toolkit

Welcome to the first part of your career journey! This module will help you learn about you! You are one of our favorite people! This page will help you build a career that brings you fulfillment and utilizes your natural abilities.

There are four basic and broad elements that define who you are in relation to your work-life:

  • Your Style
    • This is your natural way of being. It is important to learn what part of your character defines you.
    • Each style relates to the world differently. No style is better than any other. Each has its own pattern of strengths and shortcomings.
    • Specific styles tend to be drawn toward certain careers. Research has shown that all styles can be found in all careers.
  • Your Motivation
    • Your interests, needs, values and beliefs determine what you like to do.
    • The most important question you need to ask yourself about your work is, "What motivates me to do my best work?"
  • Your Skills
    • Your skills are the things that you can do and really like doing.
    • You have transferrable skills that you can take with you regardless of the position.
    • While there may be many things that you can do, you must ask yourself, "What skills do you want to use at work?"
  • Your Internal Barriers and Developmental Needs
    • It is important to understand what blocks you from the work life you want.
    • Look at what attitudes, behavior patterns, opinions, or beliefs are not helping you.
